Two kids tragically drowned after they fell into an abandoned, illegal mining pit in Kotokuom, Ashanti District.
On Sunday, July 25, the three boys went to their farm, which is located near the site, when one of the boys fell into the pit.
The other two boys, aged four and six, then tried to save their friend, but were drowned.
Eyewitness Nicholas Osei described the tragic incident to Akoma FM's Andrews Akwaboah in an interview, saying, "These three kids went to the area to check on their crop field."
They regularly go and irrigate the crops there that have been planted.
He said, "One was saved, but two perished in the water-filled pit."
While the rescued person is receiving medical attention at the same institution, the deceased's bodies have been brought to Nhyinahini Government Hospital for an autopsy and preservation.
