The Electoral Commission (EC) has recently addressed concerns raised by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding the printing of ballot papers for the upcoming December 7 presidential and parliamentary elections.
In response to claims made by the NDC stating that they have not yet received the ballot statistics necessary for the printing of the ballot papers, the EC has clarified that the printing process has not yet commenced.
In a statement released on Monday, the Electoral Commission reassured the public that it will adhere to the standard procedure of providing ballot statistics to candidates, political parties, and all printing houses before commencing the printing of the ballot papers. The EC emphasized that it will not deviate from this established practice.
The statement from the EC read, "We would like to assure the general public that the printing of ballot papers has not commenced. As has always been the case, the Commission will provide ballot statistics to candidates, political parties and all printing houses before the printing of the ballot papers starts. Printing of ballot papers will only commence after ballot statistics have been provided to all stakeholders. The Commission will not depart from this practice."
Furthermore, the EC announced that the printing of notice of poll for the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections is scheduled to begin on Friday, October 11th.
It is evident that the Electoral Commission is committed to ensuring transparency and adherence to established procedures in preparation for the upcoming elections. This commitment to due process is essential in upholding the integrity of the electoral system and fostering trust among stakeholders and the general public.
As we approach the December 7 elections, it is imperative that all parties involved work together to uphold the principles of fairness and transparency, ultimately contributing to a credible electoral process. The adherence to established protocols by the Electoral Commission is a positive step towards achieving this goal.
