We can’t afford to have NPP in government again – Mahama

Former President John Dramani Mahama, the Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has expressed strong concerns about the management of the economy by the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP). During his campaign in the Funsi of the Wa East constituency in the Upper West Region, Mr. Mahama highlighted the depreciation of the local currency, the Cedi, against major international currencies, particularly the Dollar.

Mr. Mahama pointed out that despite claims of successfully re-entering the capital market by the Minister responsible for finance, the reality is that Ghana has completed debt restructuring and is now facing the challenge of repaying the restructured debts. Throughout the debt restructuring negotiations, Ghana was granted a moratorium from servicing debts. Despite this relief, the Cedi continued to depreciate against the Dollar and other international currencies, reflecting what Mr. Mahama described as the NPP's mismanagement of the country's economy.

In his address, Mr. Mahama emphasized the need for a change in leadership, asserting that the NPP should be relegated to the opposition due to their alleged mishandling of the economy. He accused the NPP of exploiting the country for the benefit of a select few, neglecting the welfare of the general populace.

Furthermore, Mr. Mahama highlighted the disparity between those who have allegedly profited from the current administration and the majority who are grappling with economic challenges. He emphasized that continuing to entrust the NPP with governance would only perpetuate mismanagement, dishonesty, and corruption.

In conclusion, Mr. Mahama called for a shift in leadership, urging the electorate to consider the implications of rewarding what he termed as "mismanagement, dishonesty, and daylight robbery." He underscored the importance of holding those in power accountable and emphasized the need for a government that prioritizes the well-being of all citizens.

As the election approaches, Mr. Mahama's remarks serve as a reminder of the critical issues at stake and the responsibility of voters to make informed decisions for the future of Ghana's economy and governance.
